Piano Sonata, Sz.80 For Brass Octet

composed by Bela Bartok
arranged by Kouichirou Oguni

Duration:12'00"

Publisher:Golden Hearts Publications(ONSA)

Printing Material:color fine paper

Program Notes:

Bela Bartok (1881~1945) was not only a composer, but also an ethnomusicologist, and an excellent pianist. Bartok is well known that he found out elements of percussions on a Piano. On this work, you can often see percussive writings (ecriture).

Originally, this work is for a solo Piano.

Trumpet x 2, Horn x 2, Euphonium x 2, Tuba x 2

This instrumentation may not be a common one. This is because that I constructed ensemble, firstly Euphonium x 2 and Tuba x 2, and then added Trumpets and Horns

Remarks on Play:

I put M.M. which were written on the original score (for Piano). However, many pianists play their own tempo. I guess this is because that they understand this work by themselves, and play in accordance with their perspective. Consequently, performance according to your own opinion is appreciated (including natural Agogik like [rit.], which is not written on a score.)

[cloth over bell] on Trumpet means putting cloth on the bell. This is because soft sound is needed. But, if it is difficult to play, just directing the bell to a music stand is available.

So that not only players who are always playing in Wind Orchestra, but also players who are always in Brass Band can perform this work, I prepared T.C. parts as a World Parts.

*Notes with brackets: Breath points,
*Small Notes: Ossias
