Program notes :
This piece is about the City in the Sky - Machu Picchu, Peru. The inquisitiveness of the ancient Inca civilization was the motivation behind the music, written for saxophone quartet with marimba and drum set. The music begins with a swaying rhythm of the marimba to unveil the mysterious ancient city. Ushered in is the soprano saxophone singing the song of the ancient city. The rest of the voices are decorative, backing up the main melody. The performance must master the rhythm of the entire piece in order to fully express the spirit.(Ssu-Yu Huang)
