Program notes:
Composed in August 2024, commissioned by the Hakata Wind Orchestra (Fukuoka, Japan). It premiered on March 15, 2025, , as the commemorative piece for the orchestra's 30th regular concert.
The title “Rosarium” is taken from the orchestra's logo, a rosary, a crown of roses.
The motive presented at the beginning (the composer calls it “Rosary Motive”) consists of five notes, and the fifth note goes flexibly in various directions, but is repeated (relentlessly) as if it were Beethoven's “Fifth Symphony,” while almost maintaining the pitch-related rhythm of each note. This repetition expresses the unwavering passion for music since the foundation of the orchestra. Entering the “development section,” the “Rosary Motive” moves freely in rhythm while maintaining the pitch relationship of each note, and eventually produces a beautiful melody. After that, the piece moves forward from the “Recapitulation” to the “Closing” section, where the “Rosary Motive” closes with a strong and unwavering will.
