Program notes:
I composed this piece for a collaboration with Kakeru Chiku, who also hails from Miyagi Prefecture. I had long felt a desire to create music based on my birthplace - where I lived until the age of eighteen - yet I had reached my current age without fully sorting out the complex, bittersweet emotions I harbored for it. Amidst the turbulence of adolescence - a time not always filled with smooth sailing - the cityscape, lush with fresh green foliage, always shone brightly. I found myself recalling Hisashi Inoue’s *Aoba Shigereru* (The Green Leaves), a work written as he reflected on his own youth; as the rhythms of festival music associated with that greenery began to emerge, the composition came together almost before I knew it. Have I succeeded in capturing that impressionable, youthful era in music? I dedicate this piece to my fellow Miyagi native, Kakeru Chiku.
