Program Note:

In 2020, commissioned by the Iizuka High School Wind Ensemble, I composed a piece for the brass quintet “Osaka Brassters” performed by members of the Osaka Shion Wind Orchestra. When composing, I wanted to create a piece that reflected the spirit of Osaka, so I drew inspiration from the style of Kida Taro, known as the “Mozart of Naniwa.”
The piece begins as a cheerful, brisk march, incorporating musical phrases that evoke the sounds of car horns on Midosuji Avenue and the Osaka Metro subway system; however, just before section [G], a *molto ritardando* marks a sudden shift to a bluesy tenor saxophone solo. Following a brief cadenza shared by the tenor and baritone saxophones, the march resumes; a baritone saxophone solo leads into a *tutti* section and the coda. A "growl" technique is specified for the phrase in the penultimate measure.
