Program notes :
This is a brass octet piece commissioned by a high school band in Fukuoka City in 2004. In response to the request at the time of the commission, this piece has a jazz taste and is different from the usual instrumentation. The range of each instrument (with the exception of trombone 1 and tuba 1) is kept within a reasonable range.
It was twilight when I went to the composition meeting, and the inspiration for the piece came from the soft light that I saw from the window. However, I did not try to describe the scene. Rather, the work may express the emotions of the town and its people, who become more animated as the darkness of night approaches.
